Will my family member have opportunities to interact socially within The Village and the community?

—Yes, the residents are highly encouraged to participate in the activities sponsored by Good Neighbor Village. These regular activities include bowling, physical fitness trips to the Y.M.C.A., and participation in The Virginia Special Olympics, Camp Jaycee, and Camp Rainbow Connection, shopping trips, and sometimes going on short excursions when you feel like you just need to get out of the house!

How much does it cost for my child or family member to live at Good Neighbor Village?

For information regarding fees for full-time or respite care residents, please contact Sandy Thompson at 804-795-9813. GNV also has a scholarship structure in place which offers a discounted rate to those who may need assistance.
You may also send an e-mail to Sandy at sandy.thompson@goodneighborvillage.org. Resident fees cover the cost of providing a home and all of its furnishings, all of the expenses associated with running a home such as utilities, food, and travel expenses to and from activities, doctor's visits, etc. Community transportation is arranged for those who work on a daily basis. Consult with an accountant to determine any tax-deductibility options that may be available for the fees paid for residency.

Is there currently room for my child or family member with mental retardation at Good Neighbor Village?

—Yes, currently, we have a few slots available. If this changes, the web site will be updated to reflect the current availability. We are currently meeting with prospective residents. When maximum occupancy is reached, we will re-open our waiting list.

How does GNV raise the funds needed to exist?

— GNV is able to exist on the love, support, goodwill and donations from board members, community members, civic organizations, foundations, grants and help from people just like you.  GNV has an ongoing development effort and we would appreciate any support you could lend.  Please send us an e-mail at development@goodneighborvillage.org and provide us with your contact information.  Please include an e-mail address if you would like to receive occasional information via e-mail.

How close is Good Neighbor Village to The City of Richmond?

—The Village is located in Henrico County, Virginia, east of The City of Richmond. The setting is rural, in a quiet area with nearby neighbors who help out in different ways on occasion.

Is a resident able to bring their own furnishings for their room?

—Yes. Residents are encouraged to use their own furnishings and decorations. After all, it is their home! If, however, a resident wishes, we will gladly furnish their room for them.

My family member attends church on a regular basis. Is The Village affiliated with any specific denomination, and, can The Village arrange for supervised attendance at a local church?

—No. The Village is a non-denominational organization whose values are centered on the fact that the residents conduct themselves in accordance with what one would expect from a "good neighbor."

—Yes. There are a number of churches of varying denominations within brief driving distance of Good Neighbor Village. Staff members are available to travel to Church with your family member and stay with them at the service.

What does the future hold for Good Neighbor Village?

—With the continued support of the extended friends and family of Good Neighbor Village, and with the ultimate objective of endowment, The Village will exist to meet the needs of its current and future residents as long as there is a need. The Village currently rests on over 40 acres of land which has room for expansion. Currently, we are organizing a capital campaign which will involve the future, potential expansion of Good Neighbor Village to provide services to more residents.

Who runs Good Neighbor Village?

Is Good Neighbor Village licensed?

—Yes. Good Neighbor Village is licensed by The Virginia Department of Social Services. We are responsible for adherence to the guidelines set forth by The Department, and have never received any "deficiencies" on any inspection.

Can Good Neighbor Village help us to arrange a trip to Richmond so that we may visit?

—Sure! A representative from Good Neighbor Village will gladly help you locate accommodations within a short distance of The Village, can provide you with detailed directions, can help you with transportation from the airport and can arrange a tour of The Village with any staff or board members necessary.

Your support is appreciated.

News and Events

Elizabeth Noftsinger
Executive Director

Good Neighbor Village
Welcomes New
Executive Director.

Recently, GNV welcomed its newest addition to the family. Elizabeth "Liz" Noftsinger was brought on to serve as Executive Director. She will be working closely with the residents and their families, the board of directors, and the public in general, to help further the mission of GNV. Elizabeth brings with her an enthusiasm that comes from years of experience with those who have special needs. As part of her role with GNV, she will also be working with friends in the community, partner organizations and our generous donors. Elizabeth will be managing the administrative side of GNV as she works in tandem with Glenn Davis who continues to do a wonderful job of managing the operations of GNV. Whether you are a family member of a resident, one of our friends or donors, or some other part of the extended family of GNV, please take the opportunity to welcome Elizabeth to GNV.

Development Campaign

"As has been mentioned in the recent past, GNV has developed a new development campaign. As GNV does not charge residents the full cost of providing a home for each resident, we must rely on the generous support of corporate and private, individual donors within the community. If you are included on our mailing list, you will likely be receiving correspondence in the near future which will outline this campaign and will ask for your support. We ask that you give consideration to GNV as an organization worthy of your continued support. If you have any questions about the campaign, or would like to discuss its details, please contact our development committee chairman, Mike Thompson, at 804-874-6453 or at Mike Thompson
